30 Aug ICAH’s POWER Through Choices Project Update!
The POWER Through Choices (PTC) Project continues its Pilot Study Year and is working its way toward the completion of data collection and curriculum implementation in Chicago’s southern suburbs. Youth randomized into our intervention arm will be receiving the POWER Through Choices 2010 curriculum over the course of the next month in ten interactive and activity-filled sessions delivered by PTC’s Project Manager, Joy Messinger, and ICAH’s newly hired Youth Development Coordinator, Vernon Johnson. Vernon also continues PTC’s work to build a vibrant and engaged Youth Advisory Board to help guide the project as we transition into our second year this Fall.
POWER Through Choices is still enrolling agencies that may be interested in participating. Eligible sites include group homes and residential facilities that work with youth in DCFS care, 14-18 years old. Please contact the PTC Project Manager, Joy Messinger for more information about the project and how to enroll your organization.
The PTC Project is a four-site demonstration project in partnership with the Oklahoma Institute for Child Advocacy. Its goal is to test the effectiveness of a medically accurate, evidence-based, and age-appropriate sexual health education curriculum designed for youth in foster care and out-of-home placement to help prevent unplanned pregnancy, HIV, and other sexually transmitted infections (STI’s).
