Position: Peer Health Ambassador (PHA) Facilitator

Areas of focus: Adolescent sexual health, sexual health education, nutrition/fitness education, youth engagement, youth development

Location: Chicago, Illinois

Reports to: PHA Specialist

Travel Requirements: Travel will occur throughout the Chicago area to various Chicago Public Schools (CPS).

Description of Position:

The Peer Health Ambassadors (PHA) Program Facilitator will be responsible for facilitating the (10) ten-session PHA curriculum.  The PHA Facilitator will also be responsible for coordinating and supporting youth participation in education and awareness activities developed as part of the PHA curriculum activities. Facilitators will track attendance and stipends for youth as a part of their participation. The PHA Facilitator will engage young people with a variety of health topics and issues such as reproductive health, nutrition and fitness, self-care, consent and rights, and healthy relationships.  PHA Facilitators will encourage creative and critical thinking to promote healthier lifestyles for participating youth.

ICAH seeks individuals committed to development an implementation of strategies to promote a positive approach to adolescent sexual health.

Internships and Field Practicum placements with ICAH are open to undergraduate and graduate students in public health, social work, psychology, counseling, education, community studies, public policy, and related fields. Internship hours are flexible and include weekdays as well as some weekends & evenings.

Interested candidates should speak with their school or university’s internship or field placement office to confirm that an internship with ICAH will meet their academic requirements.

Marketing Intern: This position will work with the Communications & Community Engagement Specalist to publicize ICAH’s work through print & social media, especially its training & education offerings. Experience with graphic design and outreach is preferred.

Organizing Intern: This position will work with the Organizing Manager to develop and implement an organizing and public education strategy to target healthcare and family systems that impact adolescent sexual health, rights, and identities. Experience working with groups of youth and adults to organize communities for social change is ideal.

Peer Health Ambassadors Intern: This position with work with the Youth Engagement Specialist to implement the Peer Health Ambassadors program, a sexual health peer education training curriculum and program, for up to 240 youth in Chicago Public Schools. Experience coordinating program logistics and an interest in supporting & training facilitators is ideal.

Training & Education Intern: This position will work with the Deputy Director and Communications & Community Engagement Specialist on the Adolescent Sexual Health Toolkit, an online collection of resources of adults & professionals working to support the sexual health, rights, and identities of youth. Interest in internet-based adolescent sexuality research is preferred.

Youth Development Intern: This position will work with the Youth Development & Education Coordinator to implement and evaluate ICAH’s yearlong Youth Leadership Council program and will assist with biweekly skill-building meetings, peer-to-peer sexuality education, and community-based mobilization and organizing. Experience working as an adult ally to support youth leadership is ideal.

Communications Intern: This position will work with the Communications & Community Engagement Specialist to research, develop, and implement a communications strategy to publicize ICAH’s work, increase social media presence, and help transform public consciousness around youth sexuality. Experience utilizing new media strategies (Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, blogging, etc.) is preferred.

Development Intern: This position will work with the Executive Director & Development Assistant to research grant opportunities and develop and write grant proposals. This position will also assist with ICAH fundraising initiatives and special event planning and coordination.

Graphic Design Intern: This position will work with the Communications & Community Engagement to create publicity and educational materials for ICAH’s various departments and programs, including fact sheets, ‘zines, brochures, palm cards, and more. Experience with graphic design is required.

Organizing Intern: This position will work with the Organizing Manager to develop and implement an organizing and public education strategy to target healthcare and family systems that impact adolescent sexual health, rights, and identities. Experience working with groups of youth and adults to organize communities for social change is ideal.
